By engaging closely with culture and nature, travelers support and shape the future of traditional livelihoods tied to the land, craft, gastronomy, and local ecosystems. 

Our Commitment to Human Rights

At Journey, we believe that travel has the power to support communities, protect the environment, and create meaningful connections, but only when conducted with the highest respect for people and their fundamental rights.

We are committed to respecting human rights across all our operations, partnerships, and supply chain. This commitment is guided by:

• The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs): We align our practices with these internationally recognized standards, working to identify, prevent, and address any adverse human rights impacts connected to our business.
• The International Bill of Human Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: We uphold the rights and dignity of every individual we work with and for, including our team, local partners, communities, and the travelers who journey with us.
• The ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work: We are committed to respecting fundamental labor rights throughout our operations and supply chain, including freedom of association, the elimination of forced and child labor, and non-discrimination in employment. 

We hold ourselves accountable to these principles as part of our ongoing commitment to being a force for good – for people, places, and the planet.

Lobbying Policy

Journey does not currently engage in any lobbying activities. If this changes in the future, any such engagement will be directed exclusively toward creating a positive impact on society or the environment, and toward protecting the communities where we operate.

Positive Impact Committee

Journey’s Positive Impact Committee is spearheaded by Journey’s co-founder and CFO, Rebecca Scotti, and brings together members from across our different countries and departments – ensuring a holistic approach to our sustainability and social responsibility efforts.

The committee meets weekly to review progress, address challenges, set goals, and develop solutions. It oversees both internal initiatives, shaping how we operate as a company, and external initiatives that extend our positive impact to the destinations and communities we serve.

Positive Impact Fund

Journey empowers guests to help protect Latin America’s legacy. We request $100 USD per traveler, per trip that goes into our Positive Impact Fund. We donate 100% of these contributions to carefully selected Latin American NGOS to support their work. Our guests have the opportunity to visit the projects and see the impact of their contributions firsthand through curated Journey experiences. Each of the countries we travel to has its own independent Positive Impact Fund and partnerships.

Journey Mexico x Arca Tierra 

Arca Tierra works to revive and preserve Xochimilco’s ancient “floating gardens” known as chinampas. These are agricultural islands built on a lake that were innovated over 1000 years ago by Indigenous communities, sustaining farming families and providing Mexico City with food for centuries. Impact so far: Journey travelers have funded the full rehabilitation of two inactive chinampas for crop cultivation and sponsored the training of a cohort of young chinampa farmers from both practical and business perspectives. The next step: co-designing a program to prepare Farming School graduates as guides, sharing their connection to the land with travelers.

Journey Mexico x Haciendas del Mundo Maya Foundation

The foundation works closely with Maya communities across the Yucatán Peninsula to strengthen livelihoods related to traditional practices. The program guides community members to form and lead artisan collectives, sustainably crafting items like clothing, homeware, honey, and vegetables that are the focus of tourism experiences and sold through the collaborative brands Taller Maya and Traspatio Maya. Impact so far: Journey traveler contributions have helped to fund the integration of six new member communities – X-Tohbil, Mahas, Nohsuytún, Holcá, Actuncoh, and Santa María Aznar. The next step: using our expertise in high-end travel to help develop Maya community-led tourism experiences, creating new ways for these traditions, and the families behind them, to thrive.

Journey Costa Rica x Bosque Vivo Foundation

Bosque Vivo is Costa Rica’s first high-altitude forest rehabilitation project, restoring forests that filter and replenish the water flowing into rivers and drinking supplies far below. Through volunteering, education, a working greenhouse, and hands-on research, they’re rebuilding these forests one tree at a time, and we’re proud to stand beside them. 

Together, we’ve restored 900 square metres of wetland, planted over 4,000 trees and shrubs, and welcomed more than 950 kids and adults through hands-on environmental education. Across 15 planting events and a new environmental classroom built to host it all, the forest is growing, one visit at a time.

Journey Brazil x Golden Lion Tamarin Monkey Association

By the 1970s, fewer than 200 golden lion tamarin monkeys remained in the wild. Today, thanks to decades of work by the project, populations are alive and growing, yet still vulnerable and needing protection. The team’s efforts continue: reconnecting the last fragments of the Atlantic Forest so the tamarins, and the ecosystem they depend on, can thrive.

Journey Panama x Proyecto NiMu

In Panama City, many children, teens, and women face barriers to education, opportunity, and independence – from limited literacy to the challenges facing youth after incarceration. Proyecto NiMu works closely with them, building reading and writing skills in children, offering rehabilitation and support for those young people, and creating pathways to personal and economic independence for women. The project has engaged 600 people through 190 hours of educational programming and 60 hours of literacy training. Journey Panama’s donations help provide what’s needed to facilitate these workshops.
