We loved Hacienda AltaGracia´s connection to the local culture and environment. Through the hotel´s collaborations within the community, we got to visit a coffee cooperative, learn about production and taste the fresh beans, as well as make cheese at a family-run farm. We had an amazing time with local cowboys who took us on a scenic horseback ride through the surrounding area, and let´s also hold a moment for the spa, what an experience! Treatments commenced with a purifying ritual to prepare the body, involving powerful ´experience´ showers, an aromatherapy steam room, clay body treatment, and sauna time – life changing!

Hacienda AltaGracia implements initiatives and runs programs which both benefit surrounding communities and reduce negative environmental impact. On-site, the restaurants prepare dishes with seasonal ingredients, with the majority grown at their organic gardens and ethically run coffee plantations. Additionally, the property is free of plastic and heats guest casitas with solar power.
Through collaborating with a coffee cooperative in the neighboring village of Cedral and working with a nearby farm, the hotel helps to boost local business while connecting guests with authentic experiences of Costa Rican culture.
AltaGracia also works in partnership with the Flying Horse Foundation to support local youth groups, at-risk individuals, and children with learning or emotional difficulties through equine-assisted learning programs. Each session uses a curriculum driven program that focuses on connection, awareness, resilience, empathy, and self-control, while encouraging physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
